Earth Day at Gateway Green
April 12 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

This is the first of six monthly stewardship events at the park this year — the Second Saturday of Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug & Sep. The focus in April will be on litter pick-up, to get the park ready for the busy warm weather season. The event runs from 10 am to noon. Come early, though, as it will likely take you 10 to 15 minutes to reach the work site.
Gateway Green is a relatively new 20-acre park, located along the I-205 Multi-Use Path (MUP). It’s a long, narrow park that offers numerous off-road bike features. But it’s more than a bike park. If you come by vehicle or transit (rather than by bike), getting to the park requires about a 1/4 mile walk down a hill into the park (and back up the hill when you leave). Unlike the original entrance along the I-205 MUP, however, the new entrance (next to the North Gateway MAX station) meets ADA slope requirements — and isn’t nearly as noisy. Only vehicles needed for maintenance are allowed to drive into the park.
This event is sponsored by Friends of Gateway Green, SOLVE and Portland Parks & Recreation. All ages are welcome.
Advanced Registration: Is highly suggested but not required. Please sign up on the SOLVE website.
Meeting Location: Volunteers will meet in the park. Look for SOLVE and/or FoGG signs near the Gateway Transit Center. Follow them north into the park; look for the pop-up tent near the center of the park.
What to Bring: Please wear closed-toed shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, and bring a backpack for hands-free convenience. Feel free to bring your personal tools if available and a reusable water bottle to support our sustainability efforts.
What’s Provided: Litter pickers, gloves, safety vests, snacks. Coffee compliments of Jet Black Coffee Company.
Restrooms: There is a Portland Loo in the park.
Parking: The Gateway Fred Meyer is allowing participants to park in its lot — along the western edge, the area closest to the Gateway Transit Center. Please do not park in the City of Maywood Park.
Transit: The Blue, Green and Red MAX lines, plus several buses, stop at the Gateway Transit Center. The park is just north of the Transit Center.
