CAMPAIGN Overview

Earth Day Oregon is a growing statewide campaign that generates awareness, donations, and partnerships on Earth Day (April 22nd) each year for Oregon nonprofits who work year-round to create a just and sustainable world.

Since its first year in 2019, Earth Day Oregon has helped raise more than $700,000 for Oregon nonprofits and has helped strengthen nonprofit-business partnerships, and the campaign continues to grow.

Oregon nonprofits, businesses, and community members come together each year for Earth Day Oregon to make a collective impact—by supporting the nonprofits who are accelerating Oregon toward our common goals of healthy environments, equitable communities, and sustainable economies across our state.

Who Does What?

(1)

Earth Day Oregon recruits nonprofit partners to join the campaign and facilitates informational and orientation meetings. Nonprofit partners must advance one or more of the 17 United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals in Oregon. The goals are a framework for global action in partnership to achieve sustainability. Nonprofit registration deadline: January 31st.

(2)

Nonprofit partners secure at least 3 business partners to support the nonprofit as part of the Earth Day Oregon campaign—with a meaningful monetary donation and a commitment to help get the word out about the partnership and any ways people can engage during Earth Month. Business partner registration deadline: March 7th (priority); March 31st (final).

Once you’ve confirmed with your nonprofit partner that you’ll support them for Earth Day Oregon 2023, you can register your business online (or your nonprofit partner can; they’ll just need info from you to do so). Business Partners support no more than 3 nonprofit partners.

(3)

Business partners discuss with their nonprofit partner(s) what their support will look like—in the form of a meaningful monetary donation directly to an Earth Day Oregon nonprofit partner, in honor of Earth Day (April 22). The value of the donation is up to you and your nonprofit partner to decide, and donations should be made to the nonprofit by May 15th so the impact of your gift can be counted as part of the campaign. (The contribution can be a flat dollar amount, proceeds from a product or service, a percentage of your revenue on Earth Day, a match for employee April volunteer hours, etc.) Some partners choose to co-host an event during Earth Month to boost engagement and potential media coverage. Earth Day Oregon’s online calendar and action hub features these partner events in April.

Business partners can support no more than 3 nonprofit partners through this initiative, so as not to dilute the impact of your gift or garble the communications about multiple partnerships.

(4)

Participating nonprofits and their 3+ business partners invite their supporters/clients/community to get involved—by giving to the nonprofit partner, learning about them (and others in the campaign), and possibly attending volunteer or other events with partners during Earth Month as applicable (potentially co-hosted by the nonprofit and business partners). Each nonprofit partner runs their own unique Earth Day effort as part of the broader Earth Day Oregon campaign.

(Throughout)

Earth Day Oregon manages and promotes the campaign overall and the participating partners statewide to maximize giving to the nonprofits, attention on the partners, and action on Earth Day (April 22nd) and all April long.

In addition to running a large media campaign across Oregon, Earth Day Oregon hosts an online Earth Month calendar, partner directory, and action hub featuring all partners and their activities—so the public can easily see who’s involved and take action.

Earth Day Oregon provides cohesively-branded, handy resources to nonprofit and business partners to make participation and promotion of their involvement in Earth Day Oregon as easy as possible.

Earth Day Oregon organizes a free partners-only networking event to kick off Earth Month and strengthen connections among the nonprofits and businesses.
